Drugs, Guns, and Development in Colombia.

Introduction
Colombia as a country has experienced its share as a nation since its conception from paramilitary uprising. The nature of instability can be related to the elusive factor of drugs and gun dealing which affects the development of the nation. Drugs business kick-started in the 1970s in Colombia before spreading and being the leading source of cocaine in the world. The instability of the nation gave rise to armed groups who are against the governments such as Revolution Armed Forces of Colombia who operate in southern, south-western, north-western and eastern. The armed group has been operating since 1964 up until 2017. Such military groups operated with drug cartels providing security for them and they receive funds from the cartels such as cartel de los Soles. These made it easier for the drug cartels to receive guns and ammunition from these rebel groups.
These military groups further complicated the fight against drug lords because of the constant state of insecurity in the nation. The military of Colombia has had a hard problem solving such issues because of corrupt military officers and also other members of the government. These corrupt employees of the government have been used by the drug cartels to get valuable information from the government. These helped the drug lords to run their business virtually untouchable. A sad story is that of a powerful drug lord Pablo Escobar who terrorist the whole country. He had money to buy people he was the leader of the Medellin cartel. He even developed a prison to hold himself to avoid being extradited to the USA to answer for charges against drug trafficking into the country.
Problem Statement
Drug abuse has been a source of major suffering experienced in the society and it should be stopped at all costs.
Objectives
- The objective of my paper is to get to understand how drug and gun usage affects the growth of the economy in Colombia.
Literature Review
According to Katie Serena in her article, Pablo Escobar Preferred dying in Colombia rather than live inside the USA jail. His wish was given to him in the year 1993 when he was shot dead in the city which he ruled Medellin. He was shot on the rooftops while trying to escape and died the death which he always preferred. A unit from the Colombian Police called search bloc was the team that tracked and located the drug lord via a phone call he had made Katie, S. (2018).
Methodology
The methodology I used to obtain data for my research proposal paper is the literature review. There are many materials which explain how the issue of guns and drugs made in Colombia near the ungovernable place in the world.
Findings.
I found out that unlawful possession of guns and also dealing in drugs is related and the result of the two variables is that it makes the country ungovernable hence it has negative effects on the countries economy. At this period and time from the 1970s to 1990s there was a high rate of unemployment and crime in Colombia.
Conclusion.
In conclusion, the fight for drug dealing should be enforced and supported at all cost so as to shun the negative impact which it can bring to the nation. Drugs and guns a recipe for disaster when they are used in the wrong way since it will cause a surge in crime and killings in the nation.
