This Referral assessment will require you to repair your previous work (if a submission was made and failed) by following the feedback given to you by the markers, the General Feedback on BREO, and also follow the assessment brief requirements as stated below.
This assessment is an individual portfolio consisting of a report (50%) and software solution (50%) for a case study covering the development, implementation, configuration, and maintenance of a network solution based on an industry standard network operating system. A final report of up to 5000 words will be submitted where you are required to fully justify your design, implementation and configuration, provide a detailed testing strategy to test your configured services, create a maintenance plan as appropriate to the case, and critically evaluate your work.
Scenario:
AcmeAccounting is a small business running from a small office in Luton. The company owner has been reliant on using Microsoft Office applications for her work. However, due to the increase in clients, she wants to set up a Linux client-server network infrastructure running the essential network services to allow her install and run a MySQL database application along with other business applications. You have been hired to use an industry Linux distribution that you must install from scratch (no pre-built VM is to be used – 20 marks deduction if this is done) on VirtualBox (preferred) or VMWare Player, to create a client-server network (i.e. 2 VMs). The network is expected to have more clients added to connect to the server.
You are then required to demonstrate four network services that should be installed, configured, tested based on a clear testing strategy, and fully reported with configuration details and full justifications for all actions done including commands details and their parameters. Your report should also cover a maintenance plan and a short (500 words)
critical evaluation of your work. The network services that you can use are:
HTTP, FTP, SMTP, SSH, DNS, DHCP, LDAP
Wireshark must be used to explain the traffic at packet level from client to server.
When the Linux is installed, you MUST use a user that has the name of your student ID followed by your initials all preceded by c (for client) or s (for server) account, e.g. s12345678JS for student John Smith server account. This should appear in the prompt of the client and server. Failure to follow these instructions or not show them on all your screenshots will attract a 20 marks deduction.
Screenshots of all actions must be clearly shown in the report ensuring that the commands and their results are shown in these screenshots.
You VMs should be kept until end of Block 5 in case they are required for further checks.

Background Information:
Linear Programming is a technique used for optimization of a real-world situation. Examples of optimization include maximizing the number of items that can be manufactured or minimizing the cost of production. The equation that represents the quantity to be optimized is called the objective function, since the objective of the process is to optimize the value. In this project the objective is to maximize the audience of a small business.
The objective is subject to limitations or constraints that are represented by inequalities. Limitations on the number of items that can be produced, the number of hours that workers are available, and the amount of land a farmer has for crops are examples of constraints that can be represented using inequalities. Manufacturing an infinite number of items is not a realistic goal. In this project some of the constraints will be based on budget.
Graphing the system of inequalities given by the constraints provides a visual representation of the possible solutions to the problem. If the graph is a closed region, it can be shown that the values that optimize the objective function will occur at one of the "corners" of the region.
The Problem:
In this project your group will solve the following situation:
Elizabeth Bailey is the owner and general manager of Princess Brides, which provides a wedding planning service in Southwest Louisiana. She uses radio advertising to market her business. Two types of ads are available -- those during prime time hours and those at other times.
Each prime time ad costs $390 and reaches 8,250 people, while the offpeak ads each cost $240 and reach 5,100 people. Bailey has budgeted $1,800 per week for advertising.
Based on comments from her customers, Bailey wants to have at least 2 prime time ads and no more than 6 off peak ads.
Your goal is to figure out how many of each ad should be aired and what is the total reach of your audience.

Public policies in media and information literacy: the legacy of John Dewey

1 LITERATURE REVIEW
The Dewey's argument regarding the great effect and spread of communication technology is also correct. According to Michel and others this is because real-time telecommunications are so prevalent in our modern dynamic global media culture (2017). There isn't much use in continuing to differentiate between the private and the public at this point. Even the concepts of "private" and "public" are becoming less meaningful in today's environment. Even the distinction between "direct" and "indirect" modes of communication is insufficient in today's world (Michel, Frau-Meigs, & Velez, 2017). According to Michel and others (2017)"Direct communication" is an issue that is difficult to answer in the light of today's global digital real-time interaction and information transmission via television, video conferencing, and Skype. Isn't it about time that we broadened our definition of "direct contact" to include the "face-to-face" immediacy given by the internet in addition to the more traditional face-to-face interaction that takes place in the actual world? On the other hand, it does not seem that FaceTime, video conferencing, or Skype are examples of direct modes of communication. It is essential to keep in mind that any form of visual communication conveys all of the indicators that form direct reaction. Michel and others agrees with Pawley (2003) further states that indicators include signs such as emotions and mood as well as nuanced differentiations of meanings of all kinds, and they do so with all of the vivacity that is conceivably possible in a physical presence or at least almost all of it (Michel, Frau-Meigs, & Velez, 2017)

To be more specific, we are concerned in the manner in which critical evaluation of information, which is an essential component of MIL, is expressed in contexts such as educational institutions and public libraries (Paz, Montero-Díaz, & Moreno-Delgado, 2020). What does it mean to evaluate information in light of the modern culture that we live in? Where is the benefit in that? How crucial is it to be able to argue against a statement when one is trying to make an evaluation of the information? Is there another method of evaluating information that may be used in certain circumstances that would be more appropriate? Do we need a broader perspective when evaluating information, one that takes into consideration the infrastructure that is engaged in the process by which we are informed? This raises the question of how elements such as feeds from social media platforms or search engine results might be included into the evaluation of information. In addition, what are the potential repercussions of defining information evaluation as a task that lies completely with the individual? In order to address these and other problems, it is required to conduct an investigation of the limitations posed by principally placing the onus of responsibility for evaluating information on the individual. In order to overcome these and other problems, we propose using the concepts of frictions in relevance and infrastructure meaning-making.

Anne Marie has received $500,000 in inheritance and would like to setup a charity (in perpetuity) to help the disadvantaged families by providing 3 scholarships each year for three deserving high school students. The charity is estimated to cost $6000 for each student each year of charity and will increase with inflation. Investment proposals will use the data from Q4, 1994 to Q2, 2021 to formulate the defense:growth allocation that will achieve the investment objectives of the charity fund. Portfolio management teams will report the two risk objectives.
Section B: Characteristics and Description of Assets/Indexes (up to 20% of the assignment mark – maximum 1000 words): Anne has set the assets/indexes that must be used in creating this portfolio are: US large (LC) and small (SC) caps, EM and EAFE large caps (LC), US Government and US Corporate investment grade bonds.
Teams will first provide a summary description of each market segment (US LC and SC, EAFE, EM, US Government bonds and US Investment Grade Corporate bonds) using the MSCI factsheets (available from the MSCI website) for each asset/index. Each asset/index will be further examined by a discussion on the summary statistics of risk measures (downside and symmetric) and returns over the entire period of the data series. Teams will conclude the section by a discussion on returns and correlation against other assets/sub-assets over the same period. Teams will provide ONE table for the assets/indexes used in the SAA and the role each asset/index plays in achieving the investment objectives. Teams should note that specifications of the tests, data choice and data manipulation (including regressions) must be placed in the Appendix and not in the main body of the proposal.
Section C: Create 3 Asset Allocation(s) (up to 30% - maximum 1500 words): Anne would like to evaluate three different SAA, using any of the three portfolio construction techniques detailed below. Each asset allocations will be constructed using (i) quarterly real returns, and (ii) data from Q4 1994 to Q2 2021. Allocations must be whole numbers (for example a 9.5% allocation to US small cap growth should be changed to either 9% or 10%), and allocation to each asset must be in multiples of 5% (for example a 4% allocation to emerging market equities must be changed to 5%). Allocations adjustments may be programmed OR can be adjusted manually.
1. An optimised Mean-Variance SAA: MV Optimised SAA will be created using Excel Solver (or any optimisation program). Solver objective will be to either minimise an appropriate risk measure (not used in the constraint) or maximise an appropriate performance ratio. Solver constraints will include:
o No leverage or short selling
o Minimum allocation of 5% to each asset/index.
o Required return based on the return objective established in Section A above.
o Ensure a defense:growth bias as established in Section A above (note this is not the 40:60 BM).
o Constrain one risk measure appropriate for this investment objective.
Investment proposals have freedom to add additional constraints as deemed appropriate based on the asset/index characteristics and discussion in section B above and demonstrate that the investment objectives will be met. Teams will explain the process of creating this SAA (for example any additional constraints used).
2. A Risk-Allocated Portfolio: A risk-allocated SAA will be created using Excel Solver (or any optimisation program). Investment proposals have freedom to allocate risk (marginal contribution) as deemed appropriate based on the asset/index discussion in section B above and demonstrate that the investment objectives will be met. Constraints for this methodology may not be the same as for the mean variance optimisation. However, 5% allocation to each asset/index will be maintained. Teams will explain the process of creating this SAA (for example the MCR proportions used).
3. A Core-Satellite Portfolio: A Core-Satellite SAA will use the 40:60 benchmark to form the core of the SAA and the remaining assets will form satellites. The allocation to the core and satellite may be Quantitatively optimised on the $ or risk allocation, or Subjective based on the description and characteristics of each asset. A 5% allocation to each asset/Index will be maintained. Teams will explain the process of creating this SAA (for example any constraint, MCR proportion or subjective core/satellite allocation used).
Teams will compare the three SAAs qualitatively and quantitatively against the 40:60 benchmark in a single table. Quantitative comparison will compare average and active return, volatility tracking error and 90% VaR (parametric or non-parametric) of the three SAAs. Qualitative comparison will explain the relative performance and riskiness of the SAAs based on (the discussion on assets/sub-assets) in section B above. Teams should note that specifications of data choice and data manipulation (including regressions, outputs from Excel, etc.) must be placed in the Appendix and not in the main body of the proposal.
Section D: Asset Allocation Testing (up to 20% of the assignment mark - maximum 1000 words): Teams will demonstrate the viability of the proposed SAA by conducting Back Testing (including analysis on significant market events). The proposal will conduct these tests with real (not nominal) returns on the three SAAs and by using quarterly rebalancing. Test will use a starting value of $500K and each test will compare the three SAAs (both qualitative and quantitative) and by making the spend in Q4 of each year (spend will be limited to the erosion of fund value on a rolling 8 quarters). Invited proposals will demonstrate comparison between SAAs using well-labelled graphs and tables.
A Back Test of the three SAAs over the period [from Q4 1994 to Q2 2021]. Teams will discuss how each asset allocation performed in general AND during (i) troughs and (ii) peaks, using business cycle information from NBER. The discussion on the SAA performance will use the characteristics of each asset/index and their allocations in each SAA.
Teams should note that specifications of the tests, data choice and data manipulation (including regressions) must be placed in the Appendix and not in the main body of the proposal.
Section E: Recommendation (Up to 10% - maximum 1000 words): Teams will provide recommendations of the SAA to Anne. The recommendations will focus on achieving Anne’s charity fund investment objectives in the future.
1. Proposals will decide on, and justify, the SAA. Testing of competing SAAs in Section D provides insight into assets/sub-assets chosen and their allocations.
2. Performance of the fund during negative market conditions and the speed of recovery of fund’s real value.
